BEHIND THE LENS (a little bit about me)
I have had many careers in my life so far. From working in a store room of a shop to the last 20+ years working as an IT professional running a helpdesk in a large International Insurance company. But I have always had a strong passion for photography. In the last few years this hobby took a very strong hold on me and would not go away, so after being offered redundancy from my company I decided to take the plunge re-educate myself and make photography a career rather than something that just kept me sane on a day to day basis. I have recently completed a 4 year BA honours degree in photography passing with Honors from the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
People have often asked me why I like photography and why I'm trying to carve a living/career out of this art form especially in today's world where everyone has a camera, maybe I'm still trying to figure that one out for myself . I am always at my happiest when I am walking around with a camera in my hand trying to capture a moment in time. Every time I leave the house I travel with a camera by my side, my camera is now an extension of my body and I see almost everything around me in a frame or maybe in a way that I could frame it and hopefully make it look better.
Photography to me has always been a way that I can express myself or express the way I see the world around me. I have always loved the photographic image and since childhood I have looked at images in the papers and magazines wishing I was where the image were taken I still do that today.
